This is one hot story! Move over Christian there is a new man in town ! The story keeps you on your toes. To those who have a problem with profanity our heroine has a real potty mouth and the F bomb is used like the blitz! That didn't bother me, I think she used it to put herself on even par working in a male dominated profession. I absolutely LOVED the story the reason for a 3 star instead of a five was because it was too short. Your reading along and you say to your self yea they will find the bad guys together. But NO I turn the page and it was THE END!!!! WTH!!!!! what just happened the story was going along and the author just stops. Yes there is a HFN ending but the author left a very big part of the story just hanging. The story ends at the 62% mark with the rest being chapters from the next book.I would have better liked that the she finished the story arc of the arson. I'm really hoping that we find out who did it in the next books.Product details

Loved this book! Alpha Desmond 'Des' Russell is an arson investigator like his dad and Captain Jess Montgomery has already had to deal with Darius Russell and is steamed at having Des appear to investigate a fire in her town when she already has things under control. Especially when his father proved to be worthless at his job when investigating her brother's death. This is a quick read but filled with passion and knowledge of the topic and left me wanting more of the story of Des and Jess. I loved that Des wasn't in the least threatened by Jess' intelligence and never makes her feel incapable of doing her job. Combustible sparks are going off from the minute these two meet and I loved it!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again Lexxie Couper is a mainstay of erotic romance in Australia. And, if there's one thing Couper does well, it's well-constructed drama, palpable sexual tension, and sizzling sex. Combustible offers all of these and more. While Couper always offers up strong and capable lead female characters, there was something about Jess Montgomery that surpassed Couper's high standard of characterisation. Jess is such a vivid, likeable character that as the story starts to end you can't help but feel a little bereft that your time with her is up. If you liked Couper's Blowing it Off, you'll love Combustible. And, if you've not yet read either (why not?!) then download both.
Holy smokin' hotness Desmond Russell can come and investigate anything, anytime for me or on me, of course I'm betting Jess Montgomery might have a few choice words to say about that! From the time Desmond steps off the plane to lead a fire investigation in Wallaby Ridge he feels the waves of animosity rolling off Captain Jess Montgomery, the thing is he also sees the heat in her eyes and it has nothing to do with the blistering outback sun. There is no denying the absolute lust and attraction these two feel for one another but Jess is having a hard time having her work interrupted by a suit from Sydney especially one whose father botched the investigation on the fire that killed her brother. There was just something about the way Desmond showed Jess that he was competent at his job, the way he let her know that he realized she was good at her job, and the way he so masterfully took control and made her want him with abandon. The snark, the respect, and the absolute passion that flowed between these two made this story hotter than a summer day in the Outback and impossible to put down.
This sexy novella takes two arson investigators and puts them in the same room, the fiery attraction between them underscoring their desire to solve the case put before them. While Jess feels antagonism for Desmond, based mostly on the fact that he's a big city guy who is taking over the case (and also because he's the son of a man she blames for an incompetent investigation into her brother's death), she also can't deny their scorching attraction. I really liked that even for a short novella, you got a very interesting look at the science of fire investigation, something I hadn't really thought of before. Desmond is such a controlled character - calm, stoic, and intense. Seeing him lose that control with Jess when she gets under his skin was fun to read, her desire for him equally as confounding to her. She's always in charge, but somehow submitting to Des's demands turns her on more than she ever expected. The two of them burn up the sheets together, and they get a great happy for now ending out of it all. 4.5 stars.

This was one helluva sexy, sizzling hot story that had me wanting and panting for more. There was no denying the sexual tension between Desmond and Jess upon their initial tense meeting that had them burning the sheets in no time. I loved that Jess was independent, feisty and not afraid to speak her mind and that Desmond was just the perfect alpha male to control her body and pleasure. I also liked the conflict in their relationship due to his father's involvement in her brother's death investigation and that they were able to rise above it to see where their newfound relationship would head. I loved this story and wished it was longer because I did not want to see it end.
I understand these are short stories but this story jumps right in the middle and doesn’t spare a second for details. The ending is sparse and a little bit of a letdown as we get the plot but no resolution.
Who is Des and who is the Captain. . . Only the storyteller knows.
Quick read. Just don’t expect details.
